on saturday, i had my Giant Slalom race, which luckily is a two run format since i crashed in the first, in my second run i ended up keeping it pinned and taking first. the track was awesome and the bike tracked like a dream. the geax DHEA tire really helped in the loose dry turns ALOT, and the Dorado stayed on the ground through the small whoop section perfectly.

on Sunday, i felt dialed in the practice, i knew i could win it if i kept it together. but unfortunately i slipped up and took a small spill, which bent my brake lever up to the point where i couldn't hold on. later on down the track i get caught up in a drift when my tires caught and it threw me over the bars. to add to that, my helmet camera fell off and i had to coast down the mountain with that in my hand. Geax and Hayes bicycle group really had me covered for the weekend keeping my bike in good order.

here is a video to sum up the weekend! http://vholdr.com/video/diablo-domination-race-2

this past week/weekend was awesome! practice conditions were perfect besides the short showers on Friday.

Friday night the GS qualifiers kicked off, conditions were nice and dry, the freshly swept course was free of debris. i ended up qualifying 7th which i was more then happy with since the rest of the competition was on hard tails and DS rigs while i was on my Jamis Bam DH bike.

Saturday was the start of the dh qualifiers, the conditions were arguably the best it has ever been for the U.S Open. i hit every line the way i wanted too and qualified 11th. later that day the GS finals started. The format used two runs, which meant that each rider had to hike up for a second run if they were not satisfied. unfortunately a rider went down hard at the end of the course which postponed the amateur race until the next morning, for their second run.

Sunday, i opted not to take my second run on the GS due to how close it was the the dh start time. later, I was pumped. i had taken 3 runs on the DH course and i felt dialed, i scoped out a new line in the rock garden earlier in the day, which went awesome. i was expecting good things, but unfortunately i ended up taking a spill in the ONLY uphill section of the course! so i ended up running up to the top of the rock garden, jumped on my bike and i was gone! i was just focusing on loosing some time, i didnt even bother clipping in until i reached the fire road. from then on out i was pedaling like a bat out of hell.

to say the least i was happy with the results. i may not have come out on the top, but i had an awesome time. i have definitely toned my self down a bit from the past years. but it has definitely payed off in the long shot. hopefully i will have better luck next year!

i would like to say thanks to everyone that helped me out this weekend!

Geax for the awesome tires!
HBG kept the bike running smooth, the dorado performed flawlessly
Jamis for keeping me on the mountain!

thanks guys!

see you at 7 Springs.

The Hayes Bicycle Group is pleased to announce the official release of the
2010 Manitou “Big Top” sponsorship program. Under the Manitou
sponsorship tent are number of new athletes and event sponsorships
primarily focused on DH and DJ categories. Manitou would like to officially
welcome Steve Romaniuk, Mike Kinrade and Garett Buehler to the 2010
program. Manitou also supports the 2010 Freeride World Tour as these three
riders will be competing.

Steve Romaniuk: Steve needs no introduction as he keeps the free in
Freeriding and has a huge 2010 season planned. Manitou is pleased to be
working with Steve. [ The dorado has a ] “Bottomless supple feel, biggest
noticeable difference from the competitor’s fork this fork turns the roughest
sections into a walk in the park. Point it through and you will be just fine and
the look of this fork turns more heads and truly boasts its price in shine.
Whatever kind of bottom out bumpers you guys use are unreal... still
debating if I have even bottomed it out.”

Mike Kinrade: Mike has been invited to every Red Bull Rampage even since
its inception, enough said. “The Dorado is absolutely the best feeling fork
I've ever used, and I couldn't be happier. It just works in every condition.
Manitou has outdone themselves in re-introducing the inverted fork back
into the market. Time to send it kids!”

Garett Buehler: Fresh like a daisy and ripe like a surfer this kid could
podium in every discipline on the Freeride World Tour and that’s his plan.
“I’m excited to run Manitou goods this season, its cool to be with a company
who really cares, and is stoked on the athletes they’re supporting. The new
Dorado is feeling slick and I couldn't be happier, it’s sweet to have confidence
in equipment when going into events like Rampage in the fall."

The 2010 Dorado Pro comes in 7050 aluminum legs and utilizes the same
premium internals as the Dorado MRD carbon version. With the added
strength of the 7050 aluminum legs, it’s now proven Freeride fork. Along
with proven TPC+ damping, the fork has a plush top-out coupled with a
unique hydraulic bottoming ramp-up that makes the fork feel bottomless. It’s
the perfect fork for these three Freeride superheros.

Spec:
Weight: 6.55lbs
Travel: 180mm/203mm in 26”
175mm in 29”
